Rabbit Reading Are Cool

Welcome to Rabbit Reading Are Cool

Yesterday in the randomised discovery feed, I came across this post from andrewantes talking about Ray Bradbury's advice to aspiring writers: read one short story, essay and poem every day for a thousand days. You can read more about the challenge here

1000 days is a really long time but I feel inspired by the challenge, I think it sounds fun and perhaps a good way to get through the big piles of books in my room.

To buy books would be a good thing if we could also buy the time to read them; but the purchase of books is often mistaken for the assimilation and mastering of their contents. - Schopenhauer

For me, the books I am least likely to finish are the chunky anthologies of poems and short stories which I can never bring myself to read or throw out as they always contain many important, intimidating authors that I someday want to read. This challenge will be a good way to maybe finish or at least make use of these big books.

I AM AWARE this blog has very limited interest for anyone else. Hell, I don't care so much for anyone else's interest. I am too interested in myself here reading these books and saying what I have to say.

I thought of creating some monthly parameters to get me to expand my range of writers. This month until the end of April I want to exclusively read non-male authors. Nothing against male writers, lord knows I love them, its just that as a male reader, 75% of the books I read each year are by men and I want to make that not so.

I also read mostly American authors, so next month perhaps I will read writers from different countries (not USA, UK or Australia). It would be cool to hear about some different cultures.

After that it can be an anglo nut feast as much as I want it to be.

ALSO, the stupid name for this blog comes from a t-shirt I bought in a korean fashion store. The shirt does not look good on me, but I like the perplexing English of the phrase and cool cartoon. Is it twee? Yes, if you just say Rabbit Reading, but the actual title of this blog is Rabbit Reading Are Cool which is cool and true and actually very bad ass.
